A “Regular” Lunch in McLean, Virginia

December 3, 2014

Have you ever gone to a restaurant where everyone else seems to be a regular? The manager and wait staff greet each customer by name and appear to know all about them and each member of their party. The line is long and the tables full, but everyone is cheerful and waiting patiently to eat. Have you been to a place like that recently?

I have.GyroPlatter

After a home inspection at a building in McLean, my co-worker, Carol Boochever, asked me if I’d like to go to lunch. She said she knew a great Greek place so I followed her around the corner to McLean Family Restaurant. Boy, was I in for a treat.

When we arrived a bit after 1:00 in the afternoon there was a line that extended out the double doors and onto the sidewalk. It was a cold day so everyone wanted to squeeze in, but no one was pushing. Everyone was looking forward to their meal and these people came in all ages. Young and old, families with children, extended families with members in wheel chairs, a seeing eye dog. It seemed like the place to be.

When it was our turn to be seated, we were greeted by a friendly waitress who brought us menus and ordered our drinks. I took a look around and every table was full and there was a full bar in the corner. I couldn’t believe I hadn’t been there before.

Chicken Souvlaki PlatterThe menu included a full diner selection. There were so many good items it was hard for me to decide. Carol ordered the Gyro Platter and I ended up ordering the Chicken Souvlaki Platter which both came with fried. All I can say is YUM.

My food was so good, and the service was fantastic. I would go back anytime. Want to go? Give me a call and I’ll meet you there.  McLean Family Restaurant is located at 321 Chain Bridge Rd, McLean, VA 22101.

Dana I’m glad you enjoyed this as much as I did. I remember my first visit to The McLean Family Restaurant in 2003. I was moving back to the Washington area after being in London for 12 years. My real estate agent took me there for lunch. It was just as you described. It had the same familiarity as our local pub. Although we didn’t end up buying a house in McLean I always try and find time to stop in when passing through.
