How do local high schools rank nationally?
May 29, 2013When parents with young children start the home buying process, one of the first things they think about are the neighborhood schools. Each year there are many state and national high school rankings that come out with different methods of evaluating schools.
Curious how the DC metropolitan area high schools rank nationally?
Let’s take a look at Washington DC and the surrounding counties in Maryland and Virginia to see which schools made the Best High Schools 2013 Ranking from US News & World Report. Below is the list of local schools in the top 200 US High Schools with their 2013 National Rankings.
#4 – Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology, Alexandria, VA – Fairfax County Public Schools
#52 – Winston Churchill High School, Potomac, MD – Montgomery County Public Schools
#59 – Walt Whitman High School, Bethesda, MD – Montgomery County Public Schools
#84 – Langley High School, McLean, VA – Fairfax County Schools
#99 – Poolesville High School, Poolesville, MD – Montgomery County Public Schools
#101 – James Madison High School, Vienna, VA – Fairfax County Public Schools
#105 – Thomas S. Wootton High School, Rockville, MD – Montgomery County Public Schools
#106 – Richard Montgomery High School, Rockville, MD – Montgomery County Public Schools
#107 – McLean High School, McLean, VA – Fairfax County Public Schools
#116 – W.T. Woodson High School, Fairfax, VA – Fairfax County Public Schools
#118 – Oakton High School, Vienna, VA – Fairfax County Public Schools
#128 – Bethesda-Chevy Chase High School, Bethesda, MD – Montgomery County Public Schools
#165 – River Hill High School, Clarksville, MD – Howard County Public Schools
#197 – Lake Braddock Secondary School, Burke, VA – Fairfax County Public Schools
While Maryland and Virginia each had seven high schools make the top 200, Washington DC did not. DC’s top ranked high school, the School Without Walls High School came in at #266.
