Do you know what SSK means?

Do you know what SSK means?

If you’re a knitter, I bet you think you do. SSK = slip, slip, knit. It’s a popular left slanting decrease that is achieved by following these easy steps. But, it is also the name of a new knitting store in Bethesda, Maryland.

Until recently, Bethesda’s only local knitting store was Knit + Stitch = Bliss. When the longtime store owner retired, two employees stepped up and created SSK which in this case, stands for Second Story Knits. It’s in the same location, but under new management.

Second Story Knits is owned by Ross Brown and Joanna Esch, two very experienced knitters who love beautiful yarns. They are making all kinds of changes to the store and have a full stock of a wide range of yarns. They have a full inventory of yarns at the moment (too many for me to mention) so take a lunch break and head over to get inspired.

There is always someone in the store who can help you select the perfect yarn for a project, find the right pattern for your favorite yarn, or help you if you get stuck with your project. They host a free community knit/crochet night every Wednesday from 7-9. They also have a table where you can sit and knit and see what other people are knitting. It’s amazing how many great knitters I’ve met there during my lunch hour.

If you are on the popular website ravelry.com, they have a group at http://www.ravelry.com/groups/second-story-knits which you can join. Second Story Knits is still getting their logo and website designed, but the store is ready for you. They are located at 4706 Bethesda Avenue, Bethesda, Maryland – with a small parking lot and just a quick walk from the Bethesda Metro Station.

And, it’s time for the Metro Yarn Crawl to begin so ask about that when you stop in.

I hope to see you there!
